More Unicorn Sites & Links
Some more pages and links of interest to those in pursuit of unicorns
on the web (note that this is not even close to being a comprehensive
list, but merely a good way to get started):
- Unicorn Photographs is my own collection of photos I've taken of various unicorns I've seen around. They're not uncommon around Melbourne, being one of the supporters in the UK Coat of Arms.
- The Unicorn and the Jorge has a tremendous collection of unicorn art, all properly credited and linked (yay for people observing copyright, eh?), links, information, lots of cool stuff
- The Mystical Unicorn has some really interesting thoughts on the unicorn in various spiritual/mystical traditions
- Geoff's
Unicorns Page has extensive links and other good stuff,
and is one of the best-established and oldest unicorn sites on the web
- Unicornomics a whimsical look at unicorn farming, and unicorn news from around the world and beyond
- Gloriana's Court has a lot of
wonderful Medieval and fantasy materials, including a fair bit of unicorn
lore, and like Geoff's site, this one has been on the net for quite
number of years
- Why kill the unicorn? The Beastmaster at Chimaera, the Bestiary Blog, ponders why the unicorn is always killed when it's captured
- The Unicorn Dialogues is an intriguing site. According to the site's author, Dialogues with the Unicorn "does not involve fantasy or fiction but is based on truths that are as real to me as the natural world outside. This wisdom transcends all divisions of place, religions, politics and origin."
- Unicorn
Collector has a bookstore, a collection of photographs, lyrics and
poems about unicorns, unicorn quotes, and other interesting tidbits.
- Time Magazine: A Brief History of the Unicorn is a really interesting article, with various possibilities as to the origin of the unicorn in popular lore and mythology
- In Our Time, The Unicorn presented by BBC Radio 4 is a very interesting downloadable podcast of a history programme wherein Melvyn Bragg and his guests, Juliette Wood, Associate Lecturer in Folklore at Cardiff University, Lauren Kassell, Lecturer in the History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge, and David Ekserdjian, Professor of the History of Art and Film at the University of Leicester, discuss the unicorn.
- A Brief History of the Unicorn of English Lore offers a very nice overview of the unicorn in Western European lore and folktales, with a number of links to images and other sites. Well worth a visit.
- A Brief History of the Unicorn at Equinest has some wonderful pictures and interesting information.
- Ten Reasons it Would Rule to Date a Unicorn is silly and absurd. Not sure if everyone would find it amusing, but I did! (Remember, I have a weird sense of humour)
