Well met, web traveler! You have stumbled upon one of the oldest and most established unicorn lore sites on the web (yes, really!). Unicorns and Thoughts Thereon offers lore, links, original writings, humour, quotes, and a bit of philosophy regarding the nature of unicorns.
What's New?13 September 2011: I added a link on the Links page. 28 February 2011: I added a link on both the Links page and the Main page, to my own collection of unicorn photographs. 07 December 2010: New site design, featuring a genuine Renaissance or Medieval drawing of a unicorn. 03 December 2010: New link! 20 January 2010: I added a few links to the Links page. 02 October 2009: An old friend has come home again! Many years ago, when this website was part of my personal homepage (we're talking 1994 or so here), I had a little essay about the "unicorn" that appears in the King James Bible (but is actually a mistranslation of the Hebrew word re'em), as this is a peculiar mistranslation that has always intrigued me. In around 1997 or so, I moved that essay to another domain. Well, today I decided to move it back here, to its original home, where it probably belonged all the time. Please feel free to go and have a read of it: King James and the Wild Ox. 26 July 2009: Amended the Unicorn in Other Languages page slightly. 26 January 2009: On a trip to Government House, I took a photo of the coat of arms over the throne in the ballroom. I've added that photo to the main page. This website first went online in its original incarnation in May of 1994. It has since undergone several design changes, lots of content updates (not all of which are listed here, obviously), and a couple of URL changes, although it's been at its current URL since May 1998. I once got an email from someone who chastised me for not updating these pages "more often". I'm not sure what they thought I should be doing with my time, but I suppose all of my free time (of which there isn't much!) is meant to be spent scouring the web and public libraries and book stores, searching for new and fresh unicorn information to put on this website, perhaps? Well, I'm sorry, but a unicorn doesn't work like a mule. To be fair, it's true that I don't really update here all that often. Fact is, I've said most of what I wanted and needed to say about unicorns, and it's all right here. When I find a new link that I like or get a new bit of interesting info, I do put it online here, but well, I've got other websites to look after, business to attend to, a family to look after, other activities to enjoy, and, yes, an actual life, and the unicorn thing is mostly just a hobby, anyway. That's about the size of it, I suppose, where this particular website is concerned. When the unicorns come looking for me, I always answer, but I don't actively pursue them anymore. And in case you don't find what you're looking for here, you might like to visit one of the fine webrings below for all manner of unicorn lore and other mystical sites:
