We have acquired a real can of worms. Yes, it’s true, we’re taking up vermiculture, and we now have a small composting worm farm.
So far I’ve given them some over-ripe tomatoes, a couple pieces of bread, coffee grounds, and a handful of shredded carrot (I shredded too much for the soup I was making). They seem to be enjoying it, though it’s going to take them some time to eat their way through all of that.
I’m going to admit it. I like worms. I always have. When I’m walking and I see worms on the sidewalk, unlikely to get back to a safe wormy place, I pick them up and move them. Worms are cool, and extremely useful, helpful creatures. So for me, a worm farm is not only giving me a warm, fuzzy, “save the planet by composting” feeling, it’s fun. And a worm farm is even better than Sea-Monkeys® (and more useful, too).
