So, it seems that GeoCities, once one of the the most popular destinations on the web, is closing. I had a page there once, a long, long time ago. In fact, it was before Yahoo! bought GeoCities, and it was before the popups and forced advertising and all that. When they started that up, I found different hosting for the site (which is now hosted on my own domain; I had my original survivor pages on GeoCities for the anonymity).

Of course, the open availability and relative ease of use of GeoCities is part of what led to its downfall. The content there is rarely worth looking at, and pretty much anyone who was serious about what they had to say went out and got their own domain and proper hosting. Oh, yeah, and it didn’t make Yahoo! any money, imagine that…
