Server was down for a couple of days due to a combination of extraordinary heat (apparently the rack was so hot you could burn your fingers on the servers, even with the air conditioning on in the room) and rolling blackouts/power failures throughout Melbourne. The server was deliberately turned off (along with the others in the rack), and I think that was a good decision. It’s really bad for a computer to get that hot, and the heat for a few days was just way, way beyond normal for Melbourne.
But, we’re back now (as you can see) and the weather is back to normal for late summer in Melbourne (as opposed to the temperatures that were more “mid-summer in the Arizona desert”).
I was twittering about it if you want to read what I was microblogging, at least when we had power and we weren’t hanging out in an air conditioned shopping centre to survive the heat (very tedious, by the way, the shopping centre thing).
